This week we have continued with our core text Ug. We have been focusing on the layout and how it is different to the layout of usual story books. As the layout is set out as comic, we focused on the dialogue of the characters. We reenacted some scenes fro the story using puppets and then wrote up the dialogue used in some speech bubbles. This led us to create our own comic strips of one of the parts of Ug. Next week we will be moving on to a new core text: Stone Age Boy.
This week we have begun learning about place value, focusing on numbers in the hundreds using manipulatives to explore 3-digit numbers. We have also been learning about money, focusing on how to add pounds and pence. Next week we will continue learning about 3 digit numbers and how to add pounds and pence together.
This week we have been learning about how much fruit and vegetables and sugar we should be consuming in our diet. We were in a group and given a 'client' to look over what they ate in a typical week. We enjoyed adding up the teaspoons of sugar they had and collating the data. Next week we will be putting the results into a bar graph.
This week we have begun reading a booklet that tells us all we need to know about mountains! We looked at four mountains in the UK and learnt that the biggest mountain in the UK is Ben Nevis in Scotland.
This week we have begun our story 'Ug Boy Genius of the Stone Age by Raymond Briggs.
We have focused a lot on the first three pages where we meet the main character Ug and his Mum and Dad Dugs and Dug. We learn a lot about those three characters and have learnt about the word characterisation and have written some descriptive sentences about these three characters. Next week we will be learning about dialogue.
This week we have focused a lot on assessing our prior knowledge on arithmetic, problem solving, place value and money. We have begun place value this week and have recapped representing numbers to 100. Next week we will continue learning place value and then begin learning about money.
An exciting week this week as we begun learning a new subject...Latin!! We learnt how to say hello to one person 'salve', hello to more than one person 'salvete' and goodbye to one person 'vale' and goodbye to more than one person 'valete'. Next week we will read a story aloud in Latin.
We have begun our topic on the Stone Age and for our 'stunning start' we acted like Stone Age people using their language of sounds, actions and drawins. We created 'caves' using our tables and dens outside in the woods.
