Year 3 – 3N and 3KP

Welcome to our Year 3 information page

Please look on the Class Page on this website for more detailed information about what's been happening in year 3 from week to week. It will give you a flavour of what we have been up to during that week, as well as give you upcoming important dates and reminders, including trips. It will also contain homework and spellings information.

3N are taught by Miss Newman  3KP are taught by Mrs King & Mrs Price

Our teaching assistants are:

Mr Woods                         Miss Groves                      Mr Gilbert

Year 3 is the first year in key stage 2 we encourage the children to become more independent both in their work and organising themselves.

Our Learning Journey Topics are:

Term 1 and 2 - Stone Age, Neolithic, Mountains & Volcanoes

Term 3 and 4 - Egypt, Rivers & Coasts

Term 5 and 6 - Ancient Greece, Settlements & Cities, Agriculture & Food Consumption

Over the year our Topics will connect to our History and Geography learning and our English texts will also link to them. In Science the children will learn to ask relevant questions and use different types of scientific enquiries to answer them. We consider R.E. to be an important part of the curriculum and the children will explore the Year 3 Understanding Christianity programme, as well as studying aspects of Islam and Judaism.

In Maths over the year we will be focusing on Place Value, followed by addition and subtraction and then multiplication and division. We will be covering time, measurement, including mass and capacity, fractions and geometry, including properties of shape. The expectations for year 3 are that children should know their 2,3,4,5,8 and 10 times tables, including related division facts.

In English spelling is a very important area in year 3 in order to give them a good foundation to work from as they move up into the higher years in KS2. We want good spelling to become second nature. Children will have regular spelling tests and our English lessons on a Monday will have a particular spelling focus. Our English texts will link to the termly topics and the children will have opportunity to learn and practice English writing skills across a range of genres.

Our P.E. sessions are on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons. Children should have a House colour t-shirt, school sports shorts and trainers.

Children should bring to school a filled water bottle (water only please),and fruit for breaktime.

Children should bring into school each day their Contact book, Reading book and Reading Record. The Contact Book will be used for any home/school communication, please look at it and use it. Please read with your child regularly and write in their Record a brief comment. Reading is absolutely key to improving your child's Literacy skills.
