Day 2

Welcome to day two of our EYFS unscheduled home learning page. If you are reading this, it means we cannot complete our learning at school today. However, we have put together below a range of learning resources and activities for you to complete at home.

Any work you complete electronically (including any photos of your work) please ask your adult to send to us on one email to our dedicated EYFS email address: earlyyears@fermorschool.org.uk

You can also complete your work on paper and bring it to school when you return.

Don't forget it is a snow day so please enjoy yourself outside. If you have built a snowman, have you made a snow angel? Could you find a willing person to have a snowball fight with?

Best wishes,

Miss Rose, Mrs Pannell, Miss Chalkley and Miss Bawcombe

Phonics Revision - i

Open the powerpoint above, can you remember the catch phrases we say for each page? I have put the actions in brackets.

Slide 3 - Listen with Len (rabbit ears)

Slide 4 - What can you see in the supersonic TV? (draw a bow with your fingers) Turn to someone and say the words for the pictures, taking it in turns.

Images are: invitation, ink and igloo

Slide 5 - A super segment (robot hands) and a brilliant blend (roll hands around each other), helps us to hear the word at the end (put hand to ear)

Images are: pip (sound them out p-i-p and your child has to blend the three sounds together to make pip)

dig (d-i-g and blend to make dig)

Slide 6 - action for the sound point with index finger in the middle and say 'i i i in the igloo', practice saying this a few times

Slide 7 - See it with Sam - (look through binoculars)

Slide 8 - My turn, our turn, your turn - use this as an opportunity to practice saying igloo, i and ink using the method above - first an adult says it, then you say it together and then your child says it independently. Use this to check they can say it correctly without the schwar sound.

Slide 9 - Practice saying the sound and doing the action

Slide 10 - Segment with Seb (robot arms) and build with Bill (clench fists and stack ontop of each other)

Slide 11 - 12 - Similarly to slide 5, help your child to recognise each sound and then see if they can blend them together.

Slide 13 - Read with Rex (make hands into a book and open)

Slide 14 - 15 Help your child to recognise each sound and then see if they can blend them together. Take note of i being in the middle of both words but that it can appear anywhere e.g. ink and igloo are at the beginning

Slide 16 - Write with Ron (hold one finger as a pen and pretend to write on other palm of hand)

Slide 17 - image shows sit, can your child identify each sound s-i-t and then you model writing it

Slide 18 - image shows tip, can your child identify each sound t-i-p and then you model writing it

Slide 19 - Supersonic phonic jobs

Slide 20 - Sound out and read each word

Slide 21 - practice writing i, can you write the correct word for each image?

images: pip, sit, dig, tip (clockwise from top left)

Slide 22 - identify each sound in s-i-p and blend to make sip, can you see it's the same word three times? What is a sip? Answer: when you take a small mouthful of your drink

Slide 23 - identify each sound i-p and blend to make ip. This isn't a real word.

Slide 24 - My turn, our turn, your turn - use this as an opportunity to practice saying igloo, i and ink using the method above - first an adult says it, then you say it together and then your child says it independently. Use this to check they can say it correctly without the schwar sound.

Slide 25 - What are the images showing? Answer: nose, newspaper and newt (this would be our next lesson)

The only written work would be practicing i and writing the words sit and tip. You may need to write the word first for them, perhaps in yellow pen or pencil so they can go over it, or dots so they can join it up. Please either send a photo of this to the early years email address or bring it in with you on your return to school.

Subitize Rap (sŭbitize) | Math Song for Kids | Jack Hartmann

Subitise is the ability to tell the number of objects in a set, quickly, without counting. Subitising develops math fluency when students recognise sets without having to count each object and it helps develop number sense and the ability to perform mental math.
Have a look at my powerpoint below to practice, can you make your own subitising picture and send it to us? You could use toys or Christmas decorations like me!
