Term 5

One of the requirements for Year 1 is to be able to recite a poem. So the children have brought home a poem about joy in their contact books that they will need to learn for the All Saints worship on Wednesday.  Please help them to learn it by heart if possible.

This term we are reading and writing fairy tales and traditional stories.  We are firstly looking at Cinderella and will be moving on to Saint George and the Dragon for St. George's Day on 23rd April. We will then look at a traditional tale from a different culture; Cinnamon. Please support their learning by sharing fairy stories and talking about  the common features such as fairy tale language, repetitive phrases and the predictable plots.

Term 4

This term most of our English lessons are linked to the stories by Mini Grey featuring Traction Man.  Click below to listen to the first one of the series:

Term 3

This term we are reading Ruby's Chinese New Year by Vickie Lee.  You may want to share it with your child - click on the picture below to listen to it on youtube.

Reading homework for Year 1

We would like you to read with your child every day if possible and record any comments in your child’s Reading Record Book. These comments may be used to help support our judgments later in the year. Please also try to ask your children questions about the title, the pictures and what they have read to check for comprehension.

Please remember, books only get changed once your child can read it confidently, this is a crucial year 1 objective as it helps with their fluency and accuracy development.
