RE – Life Events
Interview a family member about a significant life event (e.g., wedding, birthday, naming ceremony). Write about how it was celebrated and why it was important.
Geography – Deserts
Create a “Desert Day” themed poster explaining what it would be like to spend a day in the desert.
Science – Sound
Make a musical instrument: Create a simple homemade instrument (e.g., shaker, rubber band guitar) and describe how it produces sound.
History – Córdoba
Design and write a postcard as if visiting Córdoba in the past (e.g., during the Islamic Golden Age), describing what you see and hear.
English – Poetry Based on Real Settings
Go for a short walk (e.g., garden, park, street) and write a poem inspired by what you see, hear, and feel.
Transitioning
Year 5 Wishes & Worries: Write down 3 things they’re excited about, 2 things they’re a little worried about, and 1 goal for the new school year.
Please complete one of these a week unless it states a week to complete by.
The hand in for these will be each Thursdays so that children can be given feedback on the Friday.
- Photograph of themselves or a family member. This will be used to create descriptive character sketches in their English writing in week 3. Hand in by 1st May 2025
As we are approaching our Multiplication check, please ensure we are practicing our times tables during the week.
- Life Cycle Diary: to create a diary or journal from the perspective of an animal (such as a frog, butterfly, or human) outlining its life cycle from birth to adulthood.
- Body Systems Poster: to research the human body and create a poster that illustrates one of the body systems (e.g., digestive, circulatory, skeletal) and describes its function in simple terms.
- Fact Sheet: to research a recent earthquake (or historical one) and create a fact sheet that includes details such as location, magnitude, and impact on the community.

Please complete one of the following 4 tasks over the next 4 weeks, this is to be handed in to the teacher on Fridays.
The students can pick 1 task every week to complete.
Draw a poster advertising a place you have been to as a tourist. What features did you experience?
Write a review of a book you have recently read. Why would you recommend it to your class? What did you like about it? Who were the characters? Where was the story set? What happened?
Research on the internet, where can you find lighthouses in the world?
Create a fact file of all the places in the world you can find lighthouses.
