Online safety is an important part of keeping children safe at Sir Henry Fermor School. We have extensive security measures in place in school, which are monitored both internally and externally, to help safeguard pupils from potential dangers or unsuitable material. Any online safety incidents are recorded and managed.
We teach online safety through our computing curriculum, and all pupils are taught how to stay safe and behave appropriately online.
We can only be successful in keeping children safe online if we work with parents to ensure the online safety message is consistent. It is important that parents speak to their children about how they can keep safe and behave appropriately online.
The key aspects of online safety are:
1) Talk to your child about how they use the internet and why it is important to be vigilant,
2) Set boundaries and rules about how they will use devices. Many devices even allow you to set up time limits for apps in the app settings.
3) Be aware of what your child is accessing and what that app or game entails
4) Be a role model: e.g. no devices at the dinner table.
Safer Internet Day takes place on Tuesday, 11 February and is a chance to focus on the online safety and well-being of children and young people. The theme is 'Inspiring Change. Making a difference, managing influence and navigating change online.'
