World Book Day @ SHF

World Book Day is just around the corner!

On Thursday 6 March our school will be engaging in many exciting activities to encourage children to read for fun. So let’s get ready to #readyourway!

What does World Book Day mean by ‘Read Your Way’?

World Book Day is here to unlock the fun of reading! Their Read Your Way campaign asks everyone to let go of pressures and give children the joy of reading on their own terms.

How to use your £1 book token.

First, check your child’s school bag! Then…:

Swap your £1 book token for a free book

In addition to this we have exciting events happening in school:

We’re excited to support children to ‘Read Your Way’ - encouraging everyone to let go of reading pressures and expectations, and empowering children and young people to have fun discovering reading on their own terms.

  • We’re supporting children to ‘Read Your Way’ by wearing something that expresses what they like to read or if they don't want to dress up, then to bring a prop such as a wand, hat or mask to express their choice.
  • There will be a World Book Day Worship where we will share all our costumes and inspiration as well as book recommendations
  • The local author Shona Masters and illustrator Lee Webb will be coming in to share their experience of creating a book which the children will have a chance to buy.
  • There will be a book swap organised by the eco team on Thursday and Friday lunchtime.
  • There will be 'a guess the mystery reader' on the school website for children to identify
  • The children will be taking part in paired reading across year groups and teachers will swap classes to promote their favourite books.
  • There is a competition for the children to create a book character from a wooden spoon. There will be a winner from EYFS/KS1 and a winner in the KS2 category and they will each receive a £5 book token. See below for examples:
