This week's spellings will look slightly different as we will be doing a year 5 assessment. This will be a selection of 20 words, read within sentences, that children will spell from memory. The skills needed are listed below, some we have learnt (or are learning) and some skills are still to be learnt.

This week, we will be assessing the children's current spelling knowledge. We will be conducting more of a formalised test to see where the gaps are in the children's knowledge. In preparation for this, we would like you to focus on the following:
Year 3 and 4 common exception words.
Dropping the 'y' for an 'i' before adding 'ed', es or 'ly' - for example- cried or funnily
Different 'ai' sounds - /eigh/, /aigh/, /ay/
Words ending in -tion and -sion
Two syllable words ending in -er
Words ending in -ous
Words with 'ch' spelling making a 'ck' sound - for example - chorus
'ou' making an 'u' sound
The prefix -im
