Big Project

Term 4

This week we had World Book Day. In English we have begun learning about the different genres of books we can have. For World Book Day we spent the week looking at cultural stories and poems. We reminded ourselves of the Poem 'Twas the night before Christmas' by Clement -Clarke Moore and then read a story based on it called 'The Night before Holi' by Swapna Haddow which the children really enjoyed as they liked the idea of throwing paint and seeing all the colours. We also read Faruq and the wiri wiri by Sophia Payne which was about a boy who wanted to be a chef. We made predictions about the story and thought about what a wiri wiri might be! We discovered that it is a type of chilli pepper! The story included a Guyanese recipe at the back and the children have been asked to try and make some lime cookies at home to see if they like them!

Once we had read all three stories we gave our opinion on which one we like the most and why. We use this stem sentence to help us 'I liked.........because......'

Happy baking!

In Term 3 we learnt to write non-fiction texts. Using this example, create your own non-fiction text about a subject of your choice. It could be an an animal, sport or vehicle.

Term 3

In Science we are learning about the different animal groups.

When you are out and about have a go at 'spotting the first signs of spring'

The big challenge:

'Is frogspawn an amphibian?'

'How many different groups of animals have you spotted on your walk?'

Term 1 and 2 Big Project

As we have been learning about the characters of Winnie the Pooh this term, why not go and visit Pooh Corner in the Ashdown Forest.

https://poohcorner.co.uk/

Can you find all the homes of the characters: Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, Rabbit, Owl, Piglet, Eeyore, Kanga and Roo?

You could take pictures, write, make a collage or a journey stick to show what you found and saw.

Here is a link to tell your adults more about journey sticks:
