Summer Term 2025

4th June 2025

Mrs Vicky Freeman and Becky Hughes visited school this morning to tell us about the possibilities of learning an instrument at Fermor from September.

We were treated to a rendition of Pirates of the Caribbean on the recorder, Wallace and Gromit on the flute and the Bare Neccesities on the clarinet.

Becky then played the piano and sung to us, showing that you can have lessons on the piano or singing lessons with her. We loved the spooky song, especially the part where we joined in on the "ooo" and it was amazing to hear an opera aria sung in Italian.

It was also wonderful to hear one of our Year One pupils Esther play a duet in front of the school.

If your child is interested in recorder, flute, clarinet, piano or singing lessons, please sign up with Create Music here:

Spring Term 2025

Red Butler Assembly

We were lucky to have Alex from Red Butler, a company that provides drum and guitar tuition at Fermor, come to play in our assembly on Tuesday 29th April. He played the electric guitar and the drums to us and the children were amazing at guessing the songs he played from ACDC to Ed Sheeran! Some of the children were invited up at the end to create a band and we all loved singing and clapping along. If you are interested in finding out more about Red Butler tuition or signing your child up for lessons, please click here to go to their website.

IRock concert

We had our biggest IRock concert yet with over 40 children involved this time! The parents and the school were treated to a wonderful concert from all the bands. Thanks to the IRock coaches who work so hard to give these performances each term. It's great to see the progress from the youngest children to the oldest and see how they all work together to create music.

Spring concert 27th March

We held our annual celebration of all things musical at Fermor on Thursday 27th March. There were 47 children involved from Year One to Year Six, playing individual instruments and showcasing our amazing music groups. It was a packed hall and the audience were treated to a wide range of musical performances.

Choir Nursery Visit

On Wednesday 12th June, the school choir visited the Maria Montessori Nursery School on Chapel Green to sing some of the songs we have been working on to the younger children and to sing some familiar nursery rhymes with them.

The Nursery school children behaved beautifully whilst listing to us sing and our choir children really enjoyed going back a few years and singing Baby Shark, Wheels on the bus and Heads, shoulders, knees and toes!

It was a lovely morning and we hope to repeat it again in Term One next year.

Autumn Term 2024

Carol Service

Tuesday 16th December

We held our KS2 carol service in All Saints church and it was a wonderful evening. Each year group sang their own carol, children did readings, the choir sang and the orchestra did their first public performance.

The service started with Y6 processing from the back of church with candles which set the scene beautifully.

Glyndebourne One Voice Festival of Singing

10th December 2024

We participated in the One Voice festival of song organised by Create Music in partnership with Glyndebourne. It was very exciting to travel to the world-renowned opera house and see some of the backstage areas. We rehearsed during the day and then sang to an audience in the evening. It was a wonderful opportunity for us to sing with the Glyndebourne opera chorus and take part in such a professional event.

Civic Carol Service

The choir were asked to sing at the civic carol service at All Saints church on Thursday 5th December. They sang a beautiful carol in Spanish "Cantemos a Maria" and enjoyed listening to St Johns School choir and the brass band during the service.

Christmas Cracker

The choir sang at the "Christmas Cracker" event in Crowborough Town Centre on Friday 29th November 2024. They added to the festive atmosphere before the lights were switched on and everyone especially enjoyed our rendition of Feliz Navidad.

Opera singer visits school

As part of our participation in the One Voice festival at Glyndebourne this December, we were lucky enough to have a real opera singer visit the school. He sang in worship for the whole school and then worked with the choir on preparing their music for Glyndebourne.

Prom Praise 19th October

All Saints Church Crowborough

Our school choir were so lucky to participate in "Prom Praise Crowborough" with the All Souls orchestra and the All Saints choir on Saturday evening. They sang beautifully with such enthusiasm and confidence and enjoyed listening to the wide variety of other items in the program. There were so many lovely comments from the other musicians and members of the public after their performances. The best one being "They've got it...they've really got it...Wow!"

We were super proud of their behaviour and attitude on a very late night!

Thank you to all members of staff and parents for your support once again.

Summer Term 2024

Mr Lacey from Create Music came to talk to us and show us how brass instruments are played. We enjoyed seeing the cornet, the trumpet and the tuba and some children even tried to make a sound themselves! He is hoping to develop the brass playing at Fermor and would love more pupils to sign up for lessons.

Please click here or contact the school office for further information.

We enjoyed a fantastic violin demonstration by our violin teacher Carl Bradford during music worship on Thursday 23rd May. Some of our pupils played to the whole school and they showed great confidence.

Hopefully it has inspired some other children to take up the violin!

Spring Term 2024

Choir Prom Praise 12th March 2024

The school choir took part in the Prom Praise for schools event at the Albert Hall.

We rehearsed for many weeks and then travelled by coach to join over 2000 other children to tell the story of David through drama and song.

It was an incredible experience and we all had a fantastic day!
